Well hello! Here we are with our second part of Cars Across Germany: Cars Arcoss Germany That I Saw And Liked Because They’re More Exciting Than A Lot Of Cars In The U.S. If you missed the first part, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Ride with me as I struggle to figure out what these are, and help me in the comments!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
These might be common place to you Europeans, but to us Americans, they’re a breath of fresh German air.
BMW 1 Series? These things are EVERYWHERE and I had a chance to ride in one via BlaBlaCar. A diesel, at that. A diesel going 220kph on the autobahn! Loved it.
This thing! A Peugeot Something!
I’m not sure this Mercedes truck came with the art-deco chair installation stock, but it does add a certain je ne sais quoi.
A couple very righteous Lotuses (Lotusi?) that had many parking tickets.
An original Mini Coop! Two German car guys were also taking pictures of it. We exchanged an international nod and then did the global Car Guy Handshake, which, if you don’t know it, HA
Skoda? And is that skyline Berlin or Munich or just random icons? Cool either way! Why can’t we have this in the U.S.? Would drive.
These odd little Audi and Mercedes A class types were everywhere! Adorable.
It’s a police car! But a BMW!!! Coincidentally when my bus got pulled over near the Czech Republic border, it was also a BMW cop. But that’s a story for another day.
I have no idea what this thing is or why it was parked here.
A DEFENDER IN THE FLESH!!!!!!!
Look at this lil’ classic. An Isetta, right?
Not a car, just a train that’s far more efficient than the United States. :(
Look at this Jaaaag. It sounded beautiful. A couple cops stopped and admired it with the owner.
Another cool Skoda! Give me, please. **Edit: I’m being told this is a Renault Megane!
We all know “that guy” and this guy is definitely that guy.
No idea here, but intense looking plug-in.
The Trabant community in Berlin is insane! I had no clue there was such a base with museums and shops and Trabant “experiences.” Very interesting.
Someone had registered a go-kart and a 4wheeler and literally just drove off on the street. Is that legal in Germany? Very Mario Kart of them.
These Merc CLS Shooting Brakes were everywhere and just the epitome of beautiful. Hey Mercedes, we have the CLS, give us the wagon version. Just. Omg. New pants are needed.
Possibly the most German photo I’ve ever taken.
Finally, look at this weird bus in Russia! It looks like a slug!

Oh it’s a Rover (75)!!! Almost half a BMW underneath, but FWD. Also available with a V8 and RWD.
Also is Skoda the new synonym for cheap european cars the US cant have?

Ok dumb question...is a Rover 75 rare?
And I think it has to be now after my mistakes, right? Everything I don’t recognize is now a Skoda

Sorry for the spam, but I’m a European so I know them all.
Also you might want the S1,
228hp AWD in a fiesta sized package.

Ok you solved them all! Check out my other post if you’re still feeling Sherlock-y. And thanks! I wish we had these...well, except for that 207 CC

No way, I’m happy someone took a look! Why don’t we get cool/speedy compacts here in the States?! That S1 would definitely sell. I was watching the Top Gear about the 125 Ford Fiesta this morning and, just, c’mon US car market!

VW went nuts with hot hatches recently Audi S1 is closely related to the Polo, which they made a limited run WRC version of. This ran the same AWD and motor.

They made about 210k, plus another 27k MG ZTs, so not really, but both are still produced in China.

Interesting! I don’t think I knew they were made in China. Does that count as seeing a Chinese car? I think so!

Rover 75. The one that was designed during BMWs stint and now lives on as the Roewe something or other in China.

I think so too. The roofline doesn’t look like an Astra to me.

Went to The Ring a few weeks back and saw this beauty. Also i never understand Europe’s obsession with the Mustang, until I saw all the Defenders driving around. I would love to have a British style Jeep in the US

Perfect size and FR layout. Yes please. Part of me wishes I didn't have to leave Germany. But who knows what the future holds?

The V8 came from Ford, its basically Fords 4.6L Modular V8 which you could find in Crown Vics or Mustang GTs. I know because I had to order an oil filter adapter for my Lincoln and bought the part intended for the Rover/MG.

I can’t believe I went to Germany and didn’t go to The ‘Ring. Didn’t even think about it until my last day there! Please tell me you saw that in action?!
And you’re totally right. I would LOVE to have a Defender here, which is probably just like the Mustangs/Magnums/Harley’s that seem to roam the streets there

I did see it go around once, but the balls to the wall fast drivers were in Porsche GT3 cars. I have never seen that many GT3’s in my life. They were also the best sounding car there that day.
